Congressional, State Representative debates set for October

VINCENNES, Ind. — The League of Women Voters of Knox County (Vincennes) will host two live televised debates in Vincennes in October.

The first debate will be Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. EDT between the candidates for Indiana House of Representatives, District 45, Rep. Kreg Battles and Rep. Bruce Borders.

The second debate will be Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. featuring the candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 8th District, Congressman Larry Bucshon, Dave Crooks, and Bart Gadau. This Congressional debate will be co-hosted by the League of Women Voters of Vigo County (Terre Haute).

Both debates will be at Vincennes University and carried live by WVUT television and WVUB 91.1 FM Radio, plus live streaming over the WVUT website. There will be no open seating for either debate.

The debate format and rules were designed by the League of Women Voters with the goal of providing maximum time for candidates to answer questions for the live television audience. The debate date, format, and rules have been agreed upon by all campaigns.

The public is invited to submit questions in advance at either www.lwvknoxcounty.org (click on "Contact Us”) or 812-890-3093. League members will review the questions for relevance and will combine and paraphrase as necessary for clarity, brevity, and to avoid duplication. Questions will only be considered on issues of either state or national concern.

The League of Women Voters is a community-based, nonpartisan political organization that has fought since 1920 to improve our system of government and public policies through education and advocacy. The League promotes active and informed citizen participation in government.
