TERRE HAUTE —
The body of Christopher Barrett, who was last seen July 6 near his apartment on Oak Street near Seventh Street, was discovered this morning in the basement of that building.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr, who was at the scene along with police, confirmed the remains were that of Barrett.
Authorities believe Barrett, who was in his early 50s and who reportedly suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, may have died from injuries sustained when he fell while climbing in a basement window. Authorities speculated that he may have forgotten or lost the keys to his apartment, and was trying to gain entry through the window when the accident occurred.
