Police investigate death of man apparently struck by vehicle

The Parke County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the early morning death of a man apparently struck by a vehicle on U.S. 41 north of Rockville.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. today.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

The body was found in the northbound lane of U.S. 41 about two miles north of Rockville.

The investigation is ongoing, but it’s believed that the victim, a white adult male, had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

“It is possible that the vehicle could have been a commercial motor vehicle and that the driver may not have known that they had struck a pedestrian,” according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Anyone who traveled through the area between the hours of midnight and 1 a.m. today who may have information or who may have seen the victim walking or in the roadway is asked to contact the Parke County Sheriff’s office at (765) 569-5413.
