YMCA’s official grand opening festivities Saturday

TERRE HAUTE — After a successful opening on June 18, the Vigo County YMCA will conduct its official grand opening of the facility on Saturday.

The festivities at the YMCA, located near the south edge of Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors can tour the facility, participate in a free fitness class, and join in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon. Free child care will be offered during the grand opening, and the Tween Room will be open to monitor children from 7 to 13 years of age. Youth For Christ will conduct a hot dog (and turkey dog) giveaway, with fresh fruit from Baesler’s Market, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The schedule of classes during the grand opening include: (11 to noon), Zumba with Christiana, Zumba Toning with Julia, Youth Ballet and Jazz with Kristalena; 12:15-1:15, Zumba with Ashley, Power Pump with Keela, Zumbatombic for kids with Linda; 1-2, Burn It Off! with Melissa, Zumba with Eric.

The Vigo County YMCA opened with 342 memberships, and that number has since grown to 1,106 memberships, said Deb Plummer Ringo, CEO of the Clay County YMCA and Vigo County YMCA. Those memberships, which include families, account for more than 2,000 individuals.

At Saturday’s grand opening, anyone who signs up for a membership, along with a friend, will receive a free T-shirt, said Eleanor Ramsier, branch director of the Vigo County YMCA.
