UPDATE: Tractor-trailer rollover on I-70

PUTNAM COUNTY — At 5:50 a.m. today, Indiana State Police troopers and emergency agencies from Putnam and Morgan counties responded to a tractor-trailer rollover crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the 49-mile marker, which is near the Putnam-Morgan county line.

The eastbound lanes were closed for about 1 hour with lane restrictions and traffic slow down for the next hour.

Preliminary investigation revealed the tractor-trailer was eastbound in the construction zone and drifted off the left (north) side of the roadway ultimately losing control and rolling over onto the driver’s side in the middle of the roadway. As a result, both eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed.

The 2002 Freightliner tractor was driven by Miguel A. Fermin, 37, of Bronx, N.Y., and pulling a box trailer loaded with dry goods under the name of Cotui Transportation LLC of Clifton, N.J. Fermin sustained minor abrasions and was not transported to a medical facility.

The co-driver, Luis Torez, 45, address unknown, was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of chest pain.

Drugs and alcohol were not a factor and no citations were issued.

The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Matt Ames. Assisting were other ISP troopers, Putnam and Morgan Sheriff’s offices, Cloverdale Fire/Rescue, A&A Township Ambulance (Morgan County), Indiana Department of Transportation, and Curtis Wrecker Service.
