Two Illinois women face counterfeiting charges

Police: pair passed fake money in Vigo, Clark counties

TERRE HAUTE — Two women face criminal charges after their arrest for allegedly passing counterfeit money in Vigo and Clark counties.

Mandy Tingley, 33, of Casey, Ill., and Michelle Welcher, 39, of Martinsville, Ind., were arrested for forgery and booked into the Clark County Jail in Illinois where their bail was set at $20,000 each.

According to a news release from the Illinois State Police, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation involving forgery and counterfeiting of U.S. currency. Officers worked with the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force to seize altered, forged and manufactured U.S currency that was allegedly passed in Vigo County in Indiana as well as Clark County in Illinois.

Assisting in the investigation were the Clark County State’s Attorney, Illinois State Police, Marshall Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service. The investigation continues, and anyone with information is asked to call the Clark County Sheriff’s Department at 217-826-6393.
