TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute firefighter suffered apparently minor injuries Sunday evening fighting an apartment building fire on South Center Street.
The fire took place about 5 p.m. at 618 S. Center St. The cause appeared to be electrical, said battalion chief Tony Prouse, who was at the scene.
The injured firefighter fell about six feet into the basement of the apartment house, Prouse said. His injuries appeared minor and the firefighter “reluctantly” went to an area hospital to be checked, he said.
No other injuries were reported in the blaze, which was quickly extinguished as residents and other bystanders looked on. The damage to the building appeared minor, fire officials said.
The fire appeared to have started in a maintenance room at the rear of the two-story structure, Prouse said.
