According to a news release issued by the Vigo County Jail, the two-vehicle accident occurred about 6 p.m. near Sandford Avenue and Long Road. The crash remained under investigation Saturday.

James R. Hale, West Terre Haute, was reportedly driving a pickup truck with his unidentified teenage son as passenger. The minor was reportedly ejected from the vehicle during the accident.

Hale was transported to Union Hospital and then Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, while his son was transported to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

According to personnel at Methodist Hospital, Hale remained there in good condition Saturday evening. An update was not available for his son.

The second vehicle, a PT Cruiser, was reportedly driven by Christopher W. Headlee, 39, West Terre Haute. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Headlee’s blood alcohol content was .11 percent. Headlee was arrested on an allegation of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury and cited for driving left of center, as well as driving with an open container. He was transported to the Vigo County Jail. According to the jail’s automated inmate system, he remained there Saturday and bail information was not available.
