TERRE HAUTE —
No new information has surfaced in the investigation of last week’s fire at Garfield Towers that temporarily displaced about 200 residents of the 152-unit building.
Lt. Edward Tompkins of the Terre Haute Police Department said he is still trying to interview people who may have information about how the fire started in the sixth-floor lounge of the apartment building, which is operated by the Terre Haute Housing Authority.
One man who sustained severe burns in the fire remained in critical condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis on Monday.
Meanwhile, insurance adjusters and a cleaning and restoration company were working on the sixth floor on Monday, said Jeff Stewart of the housing authority. All sixth-floor residents who were displaced by the fire have been relocated either with family or friends, or in temporary rooms at area motels, he said.
All other residents of Garfield Towers have been allowed to return to their apartments.
