Rose-Hulman president search committee named

TERRE HAUTE — Longtime Terre Haute industrialist William Schindel has agreed to serve as chairman of the search committee to select the next president of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.

The search committee will narrow the field of candidates and recommend finalists to the board of trustees.

The next Rose-Hulman president will succeed Matt Branam, who died suddenly April 20.

“Bill Schindel is committed to the future path of Rose-Hulman and will provide excellent leadership to guide this process forward,” said William Fenoglio, chairman of the Rose-Hulman  board of trustees. “As a longtime trustee, successful entrepreneur and engineer, and former faculty member at Rose-Hulman, Bill has a unique perspective on our current needs.”

Schindel is president of ICTT System Sciences of Terre Haute.

He has been active with his alma mater since earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics. As a trustee, Schindel chairs the academic affairs committee and serves on the executive and planning committee. He has also been active with The “Great” Debate, the institute’s strategic planning process.

The search committee is composed of trustees David Hannum, Chris Mack, Darin Moody and Andy Williams; faculty representatives Patsy Brackin, Kay C. Dee, Ed Doering and Craig Downing; administration and staff representatives Sarah Forbes, Jim Goecker, Kevin Hewerdine and Kristen Loyd; alumni representative Jeff Myers; and student representative Nick Addante.

“We will conduct the search by employing best practices from the nation’s finest higher education institutions,” Fenoglio said. The process may take a year to complete.
