Police find mobile methamphetamine lab after chase

TERRE HAUTE — A police chase through the city’s south side resulted in a man’s arrest on allegations of manufacturing methamphetamine.

According to a news release from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, William R. Moody, 33, was transported to the Vigo County Jail and detained Saturday evening on allegations of manufacturing methamphetamine, two counts of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, and one count of resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot.

According to the jail’s automated inmate information system, he remained in the jail Sunday without bail and will appear in Vigo County Superior Court Division 3 at 10 a.m. today.

According to the release, off-duty deputies were dispatched to assist a conservation officer who was attempting to stop a white minivan he was pursuing near the area of Springhill Drive and McDaniel Road.

The deputies were reportedly flagged down by a passing motorist in that vicinity several minutes after the dispatch, and the citizen stated that a white van had been driving recklessly and had turned into a nearby subdivision.

Deputies reported observing a white van driving at a high rate of speed turning south onto Windsor Drive, off Springhill Drive, and they attempted to intercept it at Windsor Drive and South Seventh Street.

Deputies pursued the van through the parking lot of the shopping center at Springhill Drive and U.S. 41, bringing it to a stop in front of a restaurant there.

The driver, later identified as Moody, reportedly fled on foot heading west into the parking lot of a nearby shopping mall. He was intercepted by a passing motorist who was able to delay him until deputies arrived. While being questioned by the officers, Moody stated that an active methamphetamine lab was inside the van still parked  nearby, according to the release. Moody was identified as the person being chased by the conservation officer.
