Billboards help in hunt for killer

TERRE HAUTE — Neighbors of a Sullivan County homicide victim have opened their pocketbooks to buy billboards that seek information about who committed the crime.

According to a media release issued by the Indiana State Police, four new billboards have been erected offering a $35,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and successful conviction in the death of Lowell R. Badger.

Funds raised by Badger’s friends, family and area businesses secured the billboards, three of which are located along U.S. 41 in Vigo and Sullivan counties. A fourth billboard is along Illinois 1 between Robinson and Marshall.

Badger, an 85-year-old retired farmer, was found deceased in his rural Merom home in the 10000 block of West County Road 350 North at 9:23 a.m. Dec. 8. His son discovered Badger’s body on the floor of his bedroom, and electronics and other items were found missing from the residence. An autopsy revealed Badger died from a gunshot wound.

According to the release, the ISP continues to investigate leads daily, but no arrests had been made as of Thursday.

For updates on the case, citizens can visit www.in.gov/isp/2906.htm. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call state police detectives Jeff Hearon or Tom Hanks at the Putnamville Post, 765-653-4114.
