Rush to hospital leads to wreck on I-70

TERRE HAUTE — A motorist reportedly speeding to get to an Indianapolis hospital ended up getting medical treatment himself after a Monday morning crash on Interstate 70 near the 37-mile marker.

Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported that a 2005 Nissan Quest was eastbound when it suddenly veered to the left and struck the guardrail. Driver Jeffrey Lipko, 23, of Princeton, was transported by Putnam County Operation Life ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis for complaint of lower back pain.

Lipko was cited for unreasonable speed.

Witnesses to the crash reported that the vehicle was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed with the vehicle’s emergency warning lights activated when it went out of control.

Lipko reportedly said he was in a hurry to get to an Indianapolis area hospital where a family member was scheduled for treatment.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Adam Edwards, who was assisted by ISP Master Troopers Matt Ames and Chuck Tharp, Putnam County Operation Life, Cloverdale Police Department and the Cloverdale Township Fire Department.
