TERRE HAUTE —
After a short meeting Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Brazil decided to reschedule its postponed 2012 4th of July Fireworks Gala, originally set for Wednesday evening, until Sunday, Aug. 26.
The new August date will coincide with the final night of the Brazil Concert Band 2012 performance schedule in Forest Park. Details on the exact time fireworks will be set off will be announced in a few weeks. The location for the rescheduled fireworks will remain the same, in the sky above the City of Brazil’s Forest Park. The postponement date must also be tentative, as it depends on whatever weather conditions might exist on the future date.
The annual Brazil Rotary Club fireworks had to be cancelled shortly after it was originally excluded from the Clay County burn ban and other restrictions last week. Early on, Brazil City Fire Department and Forest Park Golf Course officials had planned, along with the fireworks company, to heavily water down the area beneath the fireworks. But as drought conditions continued to swelter the region, the Rotary Club and local officials agreed it was no longer safe to do the free fireworks display.
“This postponement is being done with the hope our community will experience some relief from the current drought conditions by August, and finally be able to enjoy the beautiful fireworks we had planned for July 4th,” President Duane Butt said. “It is impossible to know what the weather will be when the new date arrives, but we hope the drought and burn bans will end soon.”
Mark Adamson, owner of Aerial Arts Fireworks, is contracted by Brazil Rotary Club for the display. Adamson is pleased with the new date and eager to light up the sky in August when families can hopefully enjoy the fireworks. “I wish the weather conditions now were not as dry as they are. We’ll still put on a beautifully lighted display in the sky, just next month instead of now,” Adamson said.
