TERRE HAUTE —
The League of Women Voters of Vigo County is sponsoring a Women’s Equality Day March, beginning at 6 p.m. today.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the march, the purpose of which is to remind people how far women have come since they gained the right to vote, and that diligence is needed in order to maintain those rights.
Marchers will gather between 5 and 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot beside the Eugene V. Debs home on North Eighth Street. The march will proceed on a zig-zag path to the ISU Quad on Sixth Street, where tables will be set up for voter registration.
A program is planned, and ISU student organizations are scheduled to participate in the event. A tram will be available for those who are unable to walk the distance.
The league is encouraging participants to wear vintage clothing and to bring toiletry items to donate to the CODA women’s shelter and to the Next Step recovery shelter for women.
