TERRE HAUTE —
A one-vehicle accident this afternoon in southern Vigo County sent a woman to a Terre Haute hospital.
Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies said the woman, whose name was not immediately available, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident, which took place at about 2:30 p.m. on Houseman Street just north of Springhill Drive.
The woman was apparently driving south on Houseman when her vehicle, a Pontiac passenger car, left the roadway and went down a steep embankment into a ravine. The car came to rest next to a railroad track, which was running through the ravine.
There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time, a sheriff’s deputy stated.
Houseman Street, which runs parallel with the railroad tracks in that area, was temporarily closed in both directions as Honey Creek firefighters and sheriff’s deputies worked the scene.
No further information was immediately available.
