TERRE HAUTE —
An Indiana State Police trooper was in the right place at the right time Wednesday afternoon to get an impaired driver off the road.
Trooper Ted Robertson was on patrol on Indiana 63 in northern Vigo County when he was preparing to initiate a stop of a pickup truck driving erratically. At that moment, Vigo County Central Dispatch alerted officers in the field to be on the lookout for a possibly impaired driver in the same area.
Robertson stopped the vehicle and the driver, Shannon M. Strohm, 49, of Marshall, Ill., appeared to be impaired, police said. Strohm was preliminarily charged with possession of marijuana (less than 30 grams), possession of paraphernalia and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Citizens are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by dialing 911.
