Union Health System names Board as its new president/CEO

TERRE HAUTE — Union Health System, Inc. has appointed Patrick S. Board as its president and CEO. Board succeeds David R. Doerr, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Board currently serves as CEO of Union Associated Physicians Clinic LLC in Terre Haute. The UAP Clinic is a multi-specialty group medical practice and is part of UHS. Another part of UHS is Union Hospital, led by Scott L. Teffeteller, president and CEO.

Board joined UAP Clinic in 2005. During his tenure, Board oversaw an increased number of physicians, expansion of patient services and the construction of a new professional office building on the Union Hospital campus. He has more than 28 years of health care leadership experience.

Before joining UAP, he was the president of Covenant Medical Group in the Milwaukee area and served as both hospital and clinic department administrator at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania and CEO of University of Minnesota Physicians in Minneapolis.

Board received his bachelor’s in business from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and his master’s in hospital and healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota.

As a resident of Terre Haute, Board has been involved in a number of community organizations including service with Rotary and the board of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. He currently serves on the board of the Union Hospital Foundation and TREES Inc. and also on two Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce initiatives, including Better Healthcare Wabash Valley and the public policy committee.

Board lives in Terre Haute with wife, Janice, and has three adult daughters.

Ken Baker, chair of the UHS board, said, “Board has been an excellent leader for the UAP Clinic, and our volunteer board is very impressed by his vision, high-energy style and commitment to building the best possible health system for this area.”

Board begins his new duties effective Jan. 1. UAP Clinic’s board of managers is launching a search for his successor as its CEO.
