TERRE HAUTE — Hamilton Center, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation in support of Project SEARCH, an innovative experiential learning program devoted to providing real life, professional work experience for students with disabilities.

Hamilton Center CEO Mel Burks commended the Duke Energy Foundation for its support of Project SEARCH and for recognizing the importance of the program which helps high school students and young adults with disabilities become productive members of the community. Approximately 70 percent of those completing the program have been successfully employed in the community.

Project SEARCH receives support through the State of Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Medicaid Waiver and Title XX.

The Wabash Valley Community Foundation has also provided a $6,000 grant to help with the cost of the program. Funds requested are for costs associated with curriculum and supplies needed to provide Project SEARCH.

Now in its fourth year of operation, Project SEARCH provides work internships for high school students with disabilities at Union Hospital.
