Missing Arkansas man found in submerged car near Clay-Vigo line

Randall Super last seen in July

A body found in water along Interstate 70 brings an end to the search for a diabetic Illinois man missing since July. Foul play is not believed to be a factor, police said.

According to a news release issued by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, a semi-trailer driver pulled over to the shoulder of I-70 near the Clay-Vigo line Wednesday evening to rectify mechanical problems. While there, he noticed the bumper of a vehicle resting in a body of water.

A police search revealed that the vehicle’s license plate was involved in a missing person case from Mount Vernon, Ill. A deceased male was discovered inside, still fastened by a seat belt. An autopsy was performed at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

According to the release, the man has been identified as Randall Super, 57, originally from Arkansas. Super was reportedly diabetic and insulin dependent. He had reportedly left the Mount Vernon, Ill., area on July 13, traveling toward Ohio, but never arrived at his destination. Family members contacted law enforcement.

Investigators believe Super’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled through trees and into the body of water, according to the release.
