No national act for this year’s festival at Fairbanks Park

TERRE HAUTE — There will be no national music act booked for this year’s festival at Fairbanks Park, but one could be slated for a summer date instead.

“We’re thinking of taking that away from that festival and moving it to July,”  said Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Eddie Bird on Wednesday as he detailed the musical lineup for the event.

In the past, the department has brought in music acts such as America, Peter Noone from The Monkees and Sawyer Brown.

Also, Bird announced that the festival, formerly known as the Fairbanks Arts and Music Festival, will be reverting back to its original name, the Banks of the Wabash Festival.

Now in its 37th year, the festival’s original name was used from 1974 to 1983. This year’s festivities will kick off May 27 and run through June 5.

The entertainment lineup is nearly complete.

“We’re wrapping that up,” Bird said after Wednesday’s park board meeting.

Friday, May 28, will feature the Common Ground Band, followed by Cory Cox on Saturday. Sunday will showcase gospel artist Steve Cartwright. Monday’s act will be Kendall Myers, followed by the Terre Haute North Vigo and South Vigo high school jazz bands Tuesday evening. Crosswinds Band will play Wednesday, with Jackie Lawson playing Friday and Eastern Wing Band on Saturday.

Bird said two dates remain open but should be filled shortly.
