NEW: Actor Danny Glover to walk picket line with Terre Haute Bemis workers

TERRE HAUTE — With negotiations between Bemis Co. Inc. and the Workers United Local 1426 set to resume Monday, workers and their supporters are planning a rally Saturday in Terre Haute.

Striking Bemis factory workers will be joined by actor and activist Danny Glover, as well as community supporters, in a picket line and worker rally. Glover paired with actor Mel Gibson in the “Lethal Weapon” movies.

Workers will discuss fears of losing their health care and their job security, according to a news release issued by the union. They also will call on Bemis, a manufacturer of flexible packaging materials, to reach an agreement that maintains the standards that workers have won through years of commitment to the success of their factory, the release stated.

The rally is 1-3 p.m. Saturday in front of Bemis at 1350 N. Fruitridge Ave. Picketing will take place throughout the day, but will break for the rally at 1 p.m.
