Vigo County Council nets $12K in medical savings

TERRE HAUTE — A medical group provided a check for more than $12,000 to the Vigo County Council on Wednesday from refunds it received from medical savings for the county’s jail and juvenile center.

Premiere Healthcare Consultants LLC, headed by Dr. Kayur V. Patel, has handled medical needs for the county’s jail and juvenile center for the past nine months. Patel showed the council March invoices including one bill for $83,000 was reduced to $16,000 after a negotiated medical rate.

Another bill went from $26,000 to $4,000 in the same month.

“There are not many industries where you can get a 600 to 800 percent discount. You only get the discount if you ask for them, know about it and know where to look,” Patel said of his medical group’s expertise.

Patel said after billing was completed and payments received, the medical group had refund checks of $12,689, which Patel presented to the county.

In April, Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing told the council Premiere Healthcare had reported nearly $85,000 in medical cost savings since January for the jail and juvenile center. Patel also heads Wellness for Life Medical LLC, which operates a health clinic for the Vigo County School Corp. and a recently opened health clinic for Vigo County.

In other business, the council unanimously approved a request from the county’s E911 department to eliminate an office administrative assistant position and replace it with a county dispatcher at $31,443.
