TREES 2012 Photography Contest winners announced

TERRE HAUTE —

The Vigo County Public Library will host the TREES 2012 Photography Contest awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 in the main lobby.

This year’s theme is “Trees Dressed in Bloom,” and 142 entries were received in three categories: youth, adult amateur and adult professional.

Jim Avelis, photographer at the Tribune-Star, will present the award-winning photographs and offer critiques of the merits of the outstanding photographs.  

In the youth division, Emily Padgett won first place, Nicole Goodin second and Katie Haan third.

Marilyn Howerton won first place in the adult amateur division, and Alice Foxworthy won both second and third places.

In the adult professional division, David Shields won first place, Steve Lingenfelter second and Kathy Donatoni third.

The judges also gave 32 honorable mention awards. Youth division honorable mention winners are: Harlee Vineyard, Lucas Haan, Emily Haan, Madeline Schuck, Evan Curry and Emily Padgett.

Adult amateur honorable mention winners are: Amanda Zeiher, Melinda Stanley Bonnett, Alice Beaman, Jean Mausel, Judy Swez, Gary Pleines, Terri Brunette, John Swez, Chris Pfaff, Thomas Wright, Debra Leamaster, Brian Hopp, Donald Hyde and Bruce McLaren.

Honorable mention winners in the professional division are: Steve Lingenfelter, Gary Pleines, Terri Brunette and Debbie Goodin.

The exhibit of winning photographs is on display at the Vigo County Public Library throughout August.

Participants who did not win or have their photos selected for the exhibit may pick up their entries from the Community Services Department of the library between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 31. After that time, photos will be available at the Tribune-Star office lobby from Sept. 3-14 for pick up. Photos not claimed become the property of TREES Inc.

The photography contest, presented annually to gather beautiful images of trees, is co-sponsored by TREES Inc., the Tribune-Star and the Vigo County Public Library.
