Husband, wife get drug sentences

TERRE HAUTE — A Vigo County husband and wife have been sentenced on their May 2011 marijuana-related arrest.

Marion Pruitt Jr. appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Monday where he pleaded guilty to dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, both class-D felonies. He was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 2 1/2 years suspended to formal probation. He is to serve six months on in-home detention through the Vigo County Community Corrections program.

Iva Pruitt pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, more than 30 grams, a class-D felony. She received a one-year sentence to the Vigo County Jail, with time suspended to formal probation. A second count of maintaining a common nuisance was dismissed.

The Pruitts and their son, Marion Pruitt III, were arrested May 18, 2011,  after an investigation by the Vigo County Drug Task Force revealed that the youngest Pruitt was allegedly dealing marijuana. Inside the family’s Nevins Township home, police say they found several plates with marijuana residue, stems and seeds, as well as digital scales, and 15 bags of marijuana totaling 1,223 grams.

Police also found 13 guns in the home, including a sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun.

The couple’s son was sentenced in December to a three-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to dealing marijuana.
