Indiana officials say online ISTEP troubles fixed

FORT WAYNE — State officials say they believe a contractor has fixed the problems that kicked as many as 9,000 Indiana students offline while taking computerized ISTEP tests last year.

The Indiana Department of Education expects about 320,000 students across the state to take the standardized test online starting this week. That’s up from about 200,000 students last year when a system error caused some to be logged off the tests for more than an hour.

Wes Bruce of the state Education Department tells The Journal Gazette that planners believe the system is as bulletproof as possible to similar problems. He expects any troubles with this year’s online tests will be from a computer failure or a school with inadequate Internet capacity.
