Vigo School Board to give OK on bonds for DeVaney project

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the administration building, 686 Wabash Ave.

The board will approve several documents necessary for the school district to issue $5.4 million in general obligation bonds. The bonds will be used to finance an addition/renovation project at DeVaney Elementary as well as energy projects at 15 other schools.

The board will be asked to approve an appropriation resolution and a final bond resolution.

The board also is being asked to approve a contract with Energy Systems Group for the energy savings projects. “After a thorough project review and negotiations with ESG, the administration recommends approval of a contract totaling $3,289,357 for completion of the 2012 energy projects,” according to the board packet.

The administration also recommends approval of a $1.1 million contract with ARP Roofing for roofing projects. The work calls for roofing projects at North and South totaling $726,000, and work at West Vigo High School, Hoosier Prairie Elementary and the General Services Building totaling $393,393.

Under personnel, the board will be asked to make some administrative changes effective July 31. The administration recommends making Stacy Mason director of secondary education, replacing Mick Newport.

Newport will become director of human resources, replacing John Orr, who is retiring.

Robin Smith, the North assistant principal, would become the new principal at North, also on July 31.

In another change, Christi Fenton would become director of elementary education and coordinator of Title 1, also effective July 31. She is currently assistant director of elementary education and coordinator of Title 1.

In a spotlight, Ernie Thompson, Project 48 consultant, will highlight a health and wellness program titled “Ouabache Little Steppers” at Ouabache Elementary School.
