Feather Creek project gets green light from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

TERRE HAUTE — Federal officials have granted the funding needed to widen Feather Creek in Clinton.

Amy Babey, chief of plan formulation for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, notified local officials this morning that approximately $800,000 in federal funds will be available to complete the project.

USACE officials plan an internal meeting this week to set a work schedule for the project, Babey said in an email sent to local officials this morning.

Feather Creek, a stream that runs through Clinton, often floods, causing significant damage to homes in the area. The Vermillion County city has been working to solve the problem for years.

Last month, about 180 Clinton residents gathered at a town meeting to express their interest to federal officials in getting the project funded.

Kristy Jerrell, an official with the West Central Indiana Economic Development District, said she was informed that the Corps should have work plans to Clinton by the end of this month.
