ROCKVILLE, Ind. —
A jury today saw photos of the injuries sustained by an Indiana State Police trooper during a July 2012 standoff in the Parke County town of Rosedale.
As the third day in the attempted murder trial of Zachary Buza continues in Parke Circuit Court, the jury heard from ISP crime scene investigator Kris Fitzgerald about the evidence he collected at the Main Street scene.
Buza, 19, of Terre Haute, faces seven felony counts — including attempted murder, attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness and strangulation — in connection with a Sunday afternoon standoff with police at his girlfriend’s residence. In the incident, two police officers sustained minor injuries from shrapnel after bullets struck an ISP police car behind which they had taken cover.
Testimony from Sgt. Fitzgerald covered about 100 photographs taken of the scene and evidence at the scene, and the jury saw photos of blood reportedly from Buza inside the home where the standoff took place.
In testimony on Tuesday, the jury heard that the blood inside the home came from injuries Buza sustained in an altercation with the homeowner, who had allowed Buza to live there with the family.
Additional witnesses are expected to take the stand this afternoon following a recess for lunch.
