Six Community Semester events will take place Feb. 5-10

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University Community Semester has six events planned for this upcoming week to share with the Wabash Valley.

The Community Semester, which focuses on the theme “Our Town,” is a way for the College of Arts and Sciences to showcase what it does best and to encourage faculty and students to share what they are learning with the community.

Tuesday, Bob Guell, an ISU economics professor, will be making his predictions on the upcoming year at the Groundhog Day Economic Forecast. The forecast will take place at HMSU Dede I at 6:45 a.m.

Another event Tuesday is “A tale of Two Cities: Paris and Berlin.” Harry Gee, Jean Kristeller and Silvia and Terry Weir, will discuss how studying abroar changed their personal and professional experience at the Vigo County Public Library from 3:30–5 p.m.

Wednesday in the Federal Hall Courtroom, Matthew Bergbower, assistant professor of political science, will host a question and answer forum with Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett. The forum, which is sponsored by WFIU will take place from 3:30–5 p.m.

In ISU Fine Arts Building there will be a reception from 4–6 p.m. Fridat for the 10 students that created different pieces to represent the theme “Our Town.” The “Sense of Place: Visions of Our Town” exhibit is open from Monday to March 1 in the Turman Art Gallery.

On Feb. 9, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum and the ISU Center for Science Education invite children and their families to explore the latest technologies in nanoscience through different hands-on activities. It will take place from 1–4 p.m at the Children’s Museum.

On Feb. 10, Roby George, director of bands, will lead the School of Music Wind and Percussions Scholarship Concert of “American Guernica,” which is dedicated to the victims of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963, in Tilson Auditorium. The concert starts at 4 p.m.
