Terre Haute Day Nursery Fund provides $9K grant for CASA Kids

TERRE HAUTE — The Terre Haute Day Nursery Fund has given abused and neglected children in Vigo County the opportunity to benefit from daycare services for the third year in a row through a $9,000 grant to Vigo County CASA Kids.

The CASA Kids’ Daycare Scholarship Fund assists relatives and families with the expense of childcare through short-term scholarships ranging from 1-3 months. These scholarships allow families time to make more permanent childcare arrangements while ensuring a safe and enriching environment for the child.

When possible, the Department of Child Services places children with relatives as caregivers. Often the cost of daycare is a major obstacle and concern for families that are not prepared for the additional expenses.

The CASA program recruits, trains, and supervises community volunteers to represent the best interest of children in the child welfare system. The volunteers who work with these children request the daycare assistance when there is a proven need. This grant will allow us to temporarily assist these families and to provide quality daycare for children who need it most.

The Terre Haute Day Nursery Association operated a daycare facility in Terre Haute from 1893 to 1997. Their dedication to the mission of providing daycare for children in need led to the creation of the Terre Haute Day Nursery Endowment within the Wabash Valley Community Foundation and the tradition of community service continues.
