Police capture wanted man at mother’s home

BRAZIL — A man from Parke County who had been considered armed and dangerous by police was arrested Monday evening based on a tip through Wabash Valley Crime Stoppers.

Police arrested Brian Keith Garrard, 34, of Bloomingdale at a home on North Vandalia Street in Brazil about 8:30 Monday night. Garrard is accused of criminal recklessness with serious bodily injury, a D-felony, in Parke County. He was also accused of felony burglary in Illinois.

Indiana State Police and officers from the Brazil Police Department, acting on a Wabash Valley Crime Stoppers tip, found Garrard at his mother’s Brazil home, according to an Indiana State Police news release. Garrard was found hiding in a rear storage room and taken into custody without incident, the release states.

Garrard’s mother was not home at the time of the arrest but a family friend was present, police said.

Garrard was taken to the Clay County jail where his Illinois charges carry a $50,000 bond. There is no bond on the Parke County charges.
