Women trapped in car after Vermillion crash

DANA — An Illinois woman was in fair condition Monday night at Union Hospital Clinton after an auto accident in Vermillion County.

The Indiana State Police reported that Sierra Swaney, 19, of Newman, Ill., lost control of her vehicle and slid into the path of a semitrailer at Indiana 63 and U.S. 36. The semitrailer struck the passenger-side of Swaney’s Ford Taurus, leaving her trapped for 30 minutes.

She was freed from the wrecked car by members of the Dana Fire/Rescue Department, according to state police.

Swaney was taken to Union Hospital Clinton where police report she was being treated for leg injuries and back pain. A hospital official said Swaney was in fair condition Monday night.

Randy Larsen, 52, of Superior, Wis., the driver of the semitrailer, was not injured. Alcohol was not a factor and no citations were issued, police reported.

The crash, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, was investigated by Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Laney assisted by Troopers Gary Winters and Ty Lightle. The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, the Hillsdale Fire Department and Vermillion County EMS also responded to the accident.
