COVINGTON, Ind. —
Hundreds of people turned out to watch a procession for a Marine who died while on a deployment to Afghanistan pass through his western Indiana hometown.
The procession carrying the body of 23-year-old Lance Cpl. Joshua Witsman traveled from an airport in Danville, Ill., to a funeral home in Covington Thursday evening.
The Journal & Courier of Lafayette reports that hundreds of U.S. flags were flown in front lawns, flower pots and pickup truck beds. Some people held signs expressing their emotions.
A public visitation is set for this afternoon at Covington High School’s gymnasium. Witsman’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the high school, with his burial following at West Lebanon cemetery.
Witsman died May 30 in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. The military says his death is under investigation.
