Youth Worker Café set for Nov. 12 at Indiana State

Reservations due Nov. 9

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and the Children’s Bureau will co-sponsor a “Youth Worker Café” from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 12  at the Tirey Hall Ballroom on the Indiana State campus.

The Indiana Youth Institute conducts Youth Worker Cafés to bring together local youth workers, faith-based leaders, educators and community leaders to build relationships and inspire collaborations that help kids, according to Joe Shrode, the institute’s southwest field staff representative. Most cafes feature educational opportunities about youth development topics and current youth trends, Shrode said.

The topic for the café at Indiana State will be “More than Money: Ethical Mission-Focused Program Management through Formative Program Evaluation.”

Participants attending the seminar will learn how evaluation efforts can guide overall program success. The presentation will provide an overview of program evaluation and why it is important; outline ways to collect and analyze data; share how evaluation can influence program design and staff training; and discuss United Way reporting policies and review a pilot example with Wabash Valley ScoutReach.

Speakers include Nathan Schaumleffel, associate professor of kinesiology, recreation and sport and executive director of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance at Indiana State; Tony Doyle, district ScoutReach specialist with Boy Scouts of America; Sarah Archer, Boy Scouts district director; Philip Cornelius, program evaluation specialist with the Nonprofit Leadership Student Association at Indiana State and Troy Fears, executive director of United Way of the Wabash Valley.

The Indiana Youth Institute will provide lunch to those attending. Anyone wishing to attend should make reservations by Friday to Sandy Waldridge at swaldrikdge@childrensbureau.org or Joe Shrode at jshrode@iyi.org.
