Reelsville man, son found shot Wednesday afternoon

REELSVILLE — A western Indiana man under police investigation and his son have been found dead with gunshot wounds in their rural Putnam County home.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts says 40-year-old Kevin Boatright died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound and his 14-year-old son, Jeremy, also had been shot. Autopsies are planned Thursday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Watts says the bodies were found Wednesday afternoon at about 1:35 p.m. by a relative in the northwest bedroom of the home.

Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies were first to arrive and then requested assistance from the Putnamville Post of the state police after receiving information that state police detectives initiated a criminal investigation involving Kevin Boatright as a person of interest. State police detectives spoke Tuesday to Kevin Boatright at the home about an allegation he had contributed to the delinquency of two girls under the age of 18.

The death investigation is ongoing and state police have said they will have no further information available at this time.

Reelsville is about 10 miles east of Brazil on U.S. 40.
