TERRE HAUTE —
A man arrested in Vigo County in December 2010 as part of a drug trafficking operation in the Washington and Vincennes area has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Mario Rodas, also known as Ruben Echavarria, 31, had pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and conspiring to engage in money laundering. He was arrested in Terre Haute during a traffic stop.
Rodas was the chief lieutenant of a meth-and-marijuana operation headed by Washington resident Jose Vasquez-Silva, who received a 25-year prison sentence in April. The organization was responsible for an attempted violent home invasion in the Pimento area in June 2010.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Blackington, who prosecuted the case for the government, said that Rodas will be deported to Guatemala upon release from prison.
