UPDATE: Estimated Power Outages

TERRE HAUTE — As of 7 a.m., there are about 11,000 Indiana Duke Energy customers out of service, most in the west central Indiana areas of Terre Haute, Brazil, and Greencastle.

The problems are largely due to icing on power lines and ice-covered trees and branches weighing down or falling into power lines.

The outages are scattered and there are a large number of different problems to address in this region. Duke Energy is assessing and working on the problems, but are expecting more severe weather, so it’s difficult now to estimate when power will be back on.

All available resources in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky are ready to respond to this winter storm and additional weather that may come our way.

We continue to work closely with other utilities in the region and have secured a number of off system workers to assist us.

In addition, crews are traveling from our Carolinas service area to assist with any restoration work that may be needed as a result of this storm.

We have approximately 2,000 field personnel in our Midwest service area of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana who are ready to assess damage and respond to outages. In addition, hundreds of additional staff members in the Midwest and the Carolinas are supporting storm response efforts by answering customer calls, coordinating supplies and logistics, speaking with emergency management officials, etc.
