Prepare for weekend storms in Isaac’s wake

BLOOMFIELD — “We could get hit hard this weekend with rain from Hurricane Isaac,” said Roger Axe, director of Greene County Emergency Management Agency.

“The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis predicts rain from three to five inches for Central Indiana. That could produce flash flooding, power outages, damage from falling trees, and wind damage,”  Axe said.

Further, a press release from the NWS said “…wind field remnants will create favorable conditions for small, brief tornadoes, primarily Saturday afternoon and night.

"Families should be ready to collect 72 hours worth of food and drinks, put gasoline in their vehicles, and clean up debris in their yards.”

Greene County EMA encourages citizens to prepare now. Have the following on hand:

• Food, fuel and prescription medication. Don’t wait to renew your prescriptions.

• Have flashlights and batteries on hand.

• Have a battery-powered radio.

• Have enough canned and non-refrigerated foods on hand (including bottled water, powdered

Milk, and baby formula) for 72 hours if there is a power outage.

“If you don't have to use it, you will have it if the need arises later. Seldom do we get this kind of advance warning. It should be a word to the wise. We want the citizens to be prepared, not scared,” Axe said.
