Update: Man killed in Parke hit-and-run identifed

Tips from the public are still needed to assist the Parke County Sheriff’s Department investigate the early Tuesday death of a Montgomery County man apparently struck by a vehicle on U.S. 41 north of Rockville.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim was positively identified today as Jedediah C. Kingery, 33, of Crawfordsville, according to PCSD Detective Justin Cole.

An autopsy determined Kingery died of massive blunt force trauma.

Cole said it was known that the victim was struck by at least four vehicles because the drivers of the second, third and fourth vehicles stopped at the scene after striking the man, who was lying in the northbound lane of the highway about two miles north of Rockville.

The area was dark and Kingery was not wearing reflective clothing, Cole said, so the first motorist who struck the pedestrian may not have seen him before impact. And if the vehicle was a semi-truck, Cole said, the driver may have been unaware that the impact occurred.

Some leads from the public have come in, the detective said, and police are trying to check the flow of traffic during the time when the incident occurred.

“I don’t think he’d been there long before he was struck by the second and third and fourth cars,” Cole said.

Police are hoping to talk with motorists who traveled through the area between midnight and 1 a.m. and might have seen a man walking or in the roadway. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Parke County Sheriff’s office at (765) 569-5413.
