Warm eggs discovered in truck during safety inspection

TERRE HAUTE —

The Indiana State Police  found overheated eggs during a food transportation safety inspection of a 2009 International box truck at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The inspection occurred on southbound Indiana 63 at County Road 1050 South.

Trooper Brent Hoover found the truck’s refrigerator unit had been shut off and that the temperature of the 20,700 eggs varied from 58 to 59.9 degrees.

Under Indiana law, the eggs are required to be no warmer than 41 degrees during transport. The Vermillion County Health Department was contacted, and health officer Larry Beard Sr. went to the scene and ordered the cargo destroyed.

The driver of the truck, Victor L. Yagle, 46, of Rossburg, Ohio, was cited by Hoover for violation of Indiana food transportation law and released.

The load from Weaver Brothers Inc. of Versailles, Ohio, was bound for a food distribution company in Terre Haute.
