TERRE HAUTE —
A former Indiana State University student has pleaded guilty to class-D sexual battery.
John Gonzalez, 21, will be ordered to complete a sex offender class as part of his three-year sentence in a plea agreement taken under advisement Monday in Vigo Superior Court 6.
The plea agreement calls for one year of the sentence to be served in the Department of Correction, with two years suspended to formal probation. Gonzalez also must register as a sex offender.
He was arrested in June 2010 after ISU Police investigated a 2010 rape allegation. Gonzalez was an ISU student at the time, residing in Rhoads Hall where the incident occurred.
Witness statements made during the investigation indicated that Gonzalez was among people who helped take the victim to her dorm after she was among a group of students who had been consuming alcohol. Gonzalez later returned to the student’s room where the rape allegedly occurred. The student reported the incident the next day.
Judge Michael Lewis ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be conducted and filed by the Vigo County Adult Probation Department. The next court date for Gonzalez is July 23.
