19 child pornography images found on laptop of former ISU student

TERRE HAUTE — Investigators say they found 19 images of nude pre-pubescent girls on a laptop computer used by an Indiana State University student who is now facing child pornography charges.

Taylor Austin Bruckerhoff, 20, of Newburgh, appeared Wednesday morning in Vigo Superior Court 3 where he was ordered by Judge David Bolk not to access the Internet while he is out of jail on bond.

Bruckerhoff turned himself in to authorities Tuesday after an investigation by the Indiana State Police indicated that the ISU student downloaded multiple child pornography images onto his personal computer using the main server of the university.

Bruckerhoff’s Facebook page indicated he was studying automotive engineering technology at ISU, where he also carried a business administration minor. ISP reports he was a resident of Hines Hall on campus when the search warrant was served. A spokesman for the university  said that ISU records show Bruckerhoff withdrew as a student effective March 30.

Bruckerhoff appeared in court Wednesday with defense attorney Joseph Etling during the brief court hearing. A plea of not guilty was entered, and Bolk set an Oct. 2 trial date. Bond was set at $25,000 with 10 percent allowed, and Bruckerhoff posted bail soon after the hearing. Etling said that Bruckerhoff would be residing with his parents while he awaits court dates.

A warrant had been issued Tuesday charging Bruckerhoff with class-D felony possession of child pornography, as well as class-C felony child exploitation for allegedly disseminating child porn.

The arrest concluded a six-week investigation that started after the Indiana State Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip involved reports that in early February of this year an Indiana State University student downloaded multiple child pornography images onto his personal computer using the main server of the university, according to an ISP news release.

On April 3, police executed a search warrant on Bruckerhoff’s ISU dorm room, electronics and vehicle. During the search, 19 digital images of young female child pornography were discovered, the ISP release stated.

Bruckerhoff is also accused of using an online “chat room” for the attempted purpose of purchasing or disseminating child porn, police stated.

The Indiana State Police were assisted in their investigation by the Indiana State University Police.
