UPDATE: Autopsy shows Merom farmer shot to death

MEROM — Indiana State Police detectives from the Putnamville Post, with the assistance of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, continue to investigate the death of retired farmer Lowell R. Badger, 85, of Merom. A son found Badger dead on the floor of his bedroom Saturday morning. The body showed visible signs of trauma. Electronics and other items were found missing from the residence.

An autopsy was performed this morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr. Badger died from a gunshot wound, and the death is considered a homicide, according to Sullivan County Coroner Jeff Griffith.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, no other information is being released at this time, State Police indicated in a news release. Additional information will be released when it is appropriate and does not hinder the integrity of the investigation.

Several interviews of various individuals have been conducted, but no arrest(s) have been made and none are imminent. Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact 1st Sgt. Jeff Hearon or Detective Tom Hanks of the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post at 765-653-4114.

Detectives are interested in the time frame from 8 p.m. Friday until 9:23 a.m. Saturday. Anyone noticing suspicious person(s) or vehicle(s) in the area of the homicide is urged to call the Indiana State Police. No tip, police say, is too small.
