Two men held in metal theft

CLAY COUNTY — Two Clay County men remained in custody Wednesday evening after a burglary attempt earlier that afternoon.

According to a media release issued by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Ron Parksey, 31, Carbon, and Bill Nevins, 49, Brazil, were arrested in rural Clay County about 2:41 p.m. Both men face initial allegations of burglary of a business, class-C felony; theft, class-D felony; criminal trespassing, class-A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, class-B misdemeanor.

According to the release, deputies responded to a call that a burglary was in progress at a rural business. Upon arriving, investigators reported seeing two men on the property, one operating a tractor and another standing nearby. Upon seeing the deputies, the two men reportedly ran off, leaving the tractor in gear. Deputies chased, and eventually caught, the two men later identified as Parksey and Nevins.

The men reportedly used a trailer to tow a tractor to the business with a pickup truck.

The tractor was reportedly used to load into the truck bed large pieces of metal belonging to the business. The release states that the lock on one of the business doors, which had been reportedly cut off, was found in the bed.

Both men remained in custody with bail set at $10,000, 10 percent acceptable.
