Testimony continues in Parke County attempted murder trial

ROCKVILLE — A Rosedale man and his daughter testified how a domestic argument escalated

into gunfire in July 2012 when they took the witness stand today during the

Parke County trial of Zachary Buza of Terre Haute.

Buza, 19, faces seven felony counts -- including attempted murder, attempted

voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness and

strangulation -- in connection with a Sunday afternoon standoff with police

at his girlfriend's residence. In the incident, two police officers

sustained injuries after bullets were fired in their direction, striking a

police car.

Rodney Lowe and his daughter, Abigail Lowe, 17, recounted under oath how

Buza came to their home the day of the shooting, appearing intoxicated.

Rodney Lowe stated that when Buza became violent with his daughter and

threatened to kill him, Lowe retrieved a baseball bat from his living room

and struck Buza with it, ordering him to leave the home.

Abigail Lowe stated that she got between her father and Buza, trying to stop

the fight, and she tried to take the bat from her father. She testified that

she and her father left the home to go to a neighbor's house, after some of

her friends arrived at the scene and tried to calm Buza.

Testimony will resume this afternoon in the trial, which is expected to

continue through Friday in Rockville.
