Harlan to chair Vigo County Park Board

TERRE HAUTE — Peggy Harlan will serve as chair of the Vigo County Park Board in 2013, the first female elected to the top board post since the parks and recreation department was formed in 1967.

She replaces John Daniel, 75, who announced he planned to resign from the park board in the spring. Tim Hennessy, eMedia manager at WTWO, was elected vice president. Eddy Adams, district conservationist for the federal Natural Resources Conservation Service, was re-elected treasurer of the board.

The board voted to spend $700 this year for a Web-based “My Hometown Guide,” through WTWO’s website, mywabashvalley

.com. The guide, which is to launch on Monday, will be updated four times a year.

Hennessy, who abstained from voting on the appropriation for the guide, is the graphic designer for the site, which will give the park department an interactive Web-based marketing tool.

In other business, a search committee is to begin interviewing candidates Monday for the position of parks superintendent.

Superintendent W. Keith Ruble, who has led the department as superintendent since 1973, is resigning, but announced in December he is remaining in his position, staying no later than June 1, while a search process is completed.
