Arrest made in domestic incident

TERRE HAUTE — Police continued investigating a domestic incident involving a firearm after the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a residence in the 6100 block of Indiana 63.

Patrick J. Porter, 56, was arrested on an allegation of criminal recklessness, police said. According to the Vigo County Jail’s automated information system, he will appear in Vigo County Superior Court Division 1 at 9 a.m. today.

Earlier Wednesday, Sheriff Greg Ewing told the Tribune-Star a neighbor noticed an unidentified truck in a driveway at the home in the 6100 block of Indiana 63 and called the homeowner, Porter to report the vehicle.

Porter returned from Brazil to the residence south of Terre Haute, Ewing said, and found his son’s girlfriend in bed with another man.

Porter reportedly told police that he “accidentally” discharged a firearm after seeing who was in his home with his son’s girlfriend. No one was injured, Ewing said, and the bullet struck the headboard of a bed.

Ewing said the three people involved in the incident were transported to the sheriff’s department for additional questioning.
