TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute man has been given a February jury trial date on charges resulting from what appeared to be a forcible abduction that was captured on video last week.
Darrell A. Elder Jr., 20, appeared Monday in Vigo Superior Court 4 where Judge Christopher Newton set a Feb. 7 trial date on charges of criminal confinement, a class-D felony, and battery, a class-B misdemeanor.
Elder was released on his own recognizance after the alleged victim in the case requested that Elder be released from custody. Newton ordered a no-contact order between Elder and the alleged victim, who shared a residence with Elder.
Elder was arrested Friday after an investigation into a video that showed a woman apparently trying to escape from a man by running to a rear door of the Vigo County Juvenile Center. The video showed the man grabbing the woman and forcing her into his vehicle, while the woman resisted.
A Jan. 15 hearing date was also set in the case.
