Pastor arrested after restroom cameras found

LAFAYETTE — A central Indiana church has removed its pastor following his arrest on charges that he planted two video cameras inside a women’s restroom at the church.

Fifty-five-year-old Robert Lyzenga faces felony charges of voyeurism in connection with the cameras found at Lafayette’s Sunrise Christian Reformed Church.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown tells the Journal & Courier of Lafayette that a woman found the first camera inside what appeared to be an air freshener when it fell off a stall door. Court documents say video on one of the cameras also showed Lyzenga’s office.

A message seeking comment was left at a home phone number for Lyzenga.

Church elder Mark DeYoung says he’s devastated by Lyzenga’s arrest and that he’d been a trusted pastor since taking the position in 2002.
